About Alison

Design and development, one practice

I work across graphic design and front-end development, from shaping a visual direction to building the page in the browser. Browser development grew out of my design work, since I kept wanting to see my layouts actually behave on screen.

Today the two disciplines inform each other: typography decisions shape the code, and the constraints of the browser sharpen the design.

How I work

Four phases, one dialogue

01

Visual exploration

I begin with concepts and references, sketching directions and testing how they feel before choosing one to develop.

02

Type systems

Typography sets the hierarchy. I build scales, pairings, and spacing rules that hold up across print and screen.

03

Prototype building

I move the design into HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript, checking accessibility and responsiveness as the layout takes shape.

04

Production deployment

I prepare the build for launch, keeping the code maintainable so the design system can grow with the team.

Open to roles, freelance work, and collaborations

If a project catches your eye, I'm happy to talk about how it came together.
